“1798” was built in Ellsworth, ME over 200 years ago and was moved by barge down the Union river and across Blue Hill Bay to East Blue Hill in the 1950’s. The house is situated 20 feet from Morgan’s Bay at the end of a long, quite private road. There is no through traffic and the grounds are very safe for children and pets. “1798” was renovated multiple times, most recently in 2015.
1798 provides rustic luxury. The first floor includes a modern kitchen, a living room and a dining room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay. There is a mudroom /playroom for children as well as a laundry area. Also on the first floor is the master bedroom suite with large windows and stunning view of the bay. There are three functioning fireplaces on the first floor.
On the water side of the house there is a 50-foot deck with spectacular 180 degree views of Blue Hill Bay and an outdoor dining area and seating area. There is a propane grill and large propane burner for cooking lobsters. Enjoy cocktail hour on the deck with visits from bald eagles, osprey and seals as well as passing schooners and lobster men.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. You can hear the water from all the bedrooms.
The house is set on a hill and there is a finished basement which is above ground on the water side with large windows and full bay views. There is a sunny game room with a 65 inch TV. There is also a full bathroom, laundry room with washer, dryer, sink and ironing area.
Behind the house facing the bay there is a swimming pool with large blue stone patio and patio furniture. The pool is enclosed by a fence and has a solar cover.
