Experience the Maine of your dreams at The Mooring. This gracious 1907 shingle cottage has it all—classic facades, commanding ocean views, private shorefront, spacious rooms, tasteful furnishings, a swimming pool and an estate with impeccably landscaped grounds. Extensively renovated in 2017 and expanding over 5000 square feet through five bedrooms and five bathrooms, The Mooring offers both luxury and charm.
The sizable living area is perfect, with hardwood floors, a stone fireplace, and white couches and chairs. The many windows give an open and naturally lit atmosphere ideal for a peaceful retreat.
Its enormous chef’s kitchen is perfect for family and friends. Also open, and providing plenty of counter space and seating, you’ll be able to create and enjoy the perfect meal together. The large stove and double oven has six gas burner tops.
The striking cottage has two master suites, one of which is situated in a private wing on the first floor, the other on the second. There are three additional bedrooms at The Mooring, and every room is decorated tastefully throughout with shaker-style cherry furniture made by Thomas Moser and other Maine craftsmen.
After a day on the water or hiking nearby coastal trails, lounge in the appealing screened sunroom or on the shaded, white columned porch. Admire the peaceful garden, as well as the unobstructed vistas of Blue Hill Bay and the mountains of Acadia National Park. The 12-acre / 5-hectare grounds includes a carriage house, native flower beds, a towering white pine forest, imposing glacial erratic, a field of hay scented ferns and scattered blueberry patches.
The Mooring’s 350 feet of shoreline lies on an idyllic cove that can be accessed easily from the property’s large, private dock. A charming shingle hut—once the private office of a naval captain—sits atop a granite ledge above the shore. Its cedar deck is an ideal location for watching ocean birds, supervising children playing in the protected cove, and admiring wooden yachts bathed in the golden, reflected light of early evening.
After dark, build a fire in the granite fire pit, relax in Adirondack chairs, and roast marshmallows while gazing at the sea and Milky Way. The Mooring provides easy access to the many attractions, shops, restaurants and other conveniences of Blue Hill, which lies just a mile away. Bar Harbor, Bangor, Acadia National Park and Deer Isle can be reached by car in no more than an hour.
